Discover the history of Jaén's Picual EVOO
It is said that the Iberians, long before Rome extended its cloak over Hispania, were already cultivating olive trees in these lands. They valued the golden juice of olives not only as food, but also as medicine and a sacred offering. But it was with the arrival of the Romans that olive cultivation became organized, widespread, and perfected. The Romans knew well that oil was liquid gold, and Jaén soon became one of their main stores. However, it wasn't until centuries later, with the passage of entire generations of farmers, that one variety began to stand out among all the others for its strength, resilience, and intense flavor: the Picual variety.
